Does Caffeine Inhibit Hydration?
Let's Set the Record Straight.
We've had people quite a few people tell us that we're hindering the hydration benefits of ProLoco by putting caffeine in it!
We offer a version of ProLoco with 40 mg of natural, crash-free, caffeine per serving AND we offer a caffeine-free version.
We realize caffeine is a sensitive subject, and people vary in their personal sensitivity to the stimulant. For some, caffeine will leave them shaking and push their anxiety through the roof while others can down 3 cups of coffee after dinner and get a great night's sleep.
The reason that some people believe caffeine can hinder hydration is due to its mild diuretic effect meaning it can make you pee a bit more. That being said, according to research, drinking caffeine-containing beverages do not cause fluid loss in excess of the volume ingested.
Translation... while caffeinated drinks may make you pee more, they don't appear to increase the risk of dehydration.
That being said, whether caffeine will actually help or hinder your performance depends on how you personally react to it.
Here's our suggestion.
Do an A/B test on yourself.
Start the day with ProLoco or use it as an afternoon pick-me-up. Take the caffeinated version one day, and the caffeine-free version the next and, pay attention to how you feel.
By doing this, you can see if caffeine will help you feel your best or not!
