Habit Stacking
A Simple 2-Step Framework to Supercharge Habit Formation
Our brains are wired to take things we do repeatedly and turn them into habits to help us save energy. We go on "autopilot" and do things almost without thinking.
We can use these habits we all have to create new ones in just 2 simple steps by doing something called Habit Stacking.
Step 1: Identify a Habit You Already Have
Maybe (hopefully) you brush your teeth every morning, or you plug your phone in each night, or you wake up every day & shower, whatever it is, just make sure you pick something that you already do more-or-less on autopilot.
Step 2: Stack Your Desired Habit
The concept of habit stacking is to do something right after engaging in a behavior that's already a habit. For example, right after you brush your teeth in the morning (established habit), you do 20 minutes of exercise (desired habit).
By habit stacking, you leverage the power of an existing habit to create a new one, making the whole process easier and more efficient! Over time, you can even stack multiple habits to create a healthy habit chain!
